my favorite things

No raindrops on roses or whiskers on kittens for me, but I felt like paying tribute to some of my favorites, new and old alike.

– Our high tech Christmas tree… LED lights and a color changing star on top. Love it. We could leave it plugged in for all of December and never worry about the bulbs heating up or the electricity bill. It looks cool, too! The lights are bright and vibrant. C is fascinated by the color changing star. She stares at it and announces the colors as it changes. Every morning she asks, "Shall we turn the Christmas tree lights on?" (I’m not sure where she got the "shall" from, but she uses it a lot. I find it utterly adorable.) The decorations on our tree are also a bit bottom heavy, as C was a big helper while decorating. I love that she enjoyed it so much.

– Lip gloss. Especially the yummy smelling ones. Something I forget about and then come back to every few years. The most recent reintroduction was thanks to C. She found a tube of my lip gloss and desperately wanted to try some. It only took one time for me to be hooked again.

– My minivan. Yes, I know the coolness factor is minimal, but I’m a post thirty year old mom. How much cooler can I really get? Seriously, though, just don’t care. Love the design, the functionality, the sliding doors, the (newly installed) back up camera, the extra cargo space, the extra seating… and the option of having both of those last two items at once. My sister in law sold me on minivans a few years ago when she told me her biggest selling point – you never have to worry about your kids slamming their doors in to the car next to you. Sold. (in case you’re wondering, we have a Honda Odyssey)

– Tea. Again, something I forget about and then come back to (usually as the weather cools down). My absolute new favorite is trader joes candy cane green tea. Had I known I would like it so much, and that it was so popular, I would have bought ten boxes from the start. Apparently everyone had the same idea, though, because when I went back mid December to replenish my supply, all of our local stores were sold out. No more until next Christmas. *tears*

– My Evo. Really, just the concept of a smart phone in general, but I do think I have a pretty awesome model. I’ve had pdas for years (I had an original palm in college), and love that phones have come so far. I’m writing this on my phone right now. How amazing is that?

– The Beatles. Always. Just cause. I was trying to figure out what album is my favorite the other day. Every time I settled on one, I’d switch to another and change my mind. Usually it’s a toss up between Abbey Road, Rubber Soul, Sgt Pepper, Revolver… I could probably list them all here, so I’ll just stop. Abbey Road is definitely the "feel good" album that I put on when I have the blues, though. The baseline in the first song gets me every time. I do wish I still had my parent’s LPs to listen to, though. There are some days that you just can’t beat the sound of vinyl.

I’ll end it here, because, really, nothing’s going to top the last one.

Wow Suzy! You have become a prodigeous blog writer! Great to see someone is consistantly updating their blog!
I thought your story about Missy was very compelling. I understand it was an awful experience for you, but it underscores the loss that we all have to deal with at some time in our lives. I know I tend to replay these experiences of loss myself.
Never be ashamed of your mini-van! Think of it as the right tool for the job. Nothing can replace it.
Best Christmas wishes to you, Ben, and Claire!

I used to be much better about keeping my blog up, but then life just seemed to get I’m the way. I do enjoy writing, it’s a great outlet for me, so I’ll try to keep it up! It’s a great excuse to get some exercise in… blogging while working out on the bike. :)
