First friend?

C’s “I’m a two year old” switch has officially flipped. Defiant, independent and testing boundaries one moment; seeking approval and loving the next.

Despite the new challenges presenting themselves, there are perks, too. Today was an awesome day, even though C was not on her best behavior. A new girl started in her baby ballet class this morning, and they instantly hit it off. As they chased each other around (much to the chagrin of the instructor), I realized that we’d meet this girl before in a Gymboree class we’d attended. She and C had played well together there, too. They are both the type of kid who will share away every single toy in their possession, then wonder why the other kid isn’t sharing back… which works perfectly when you pair two of these kids together! “A” (omitting the full name here) was literally chasing C around with stuffed animals trying to share them. And C was loving it! I’ve never seen her laugh so much playing with another kid.

As her mom and I stood there watching them play, it dawned on me that this might turn out to be one of C’s first friend that she’s chosen by herself. It was an awesome feeling… coupled with the slight pang that she’s already on her way to growing up.
