A Stretch…

I never realized this before… perhaps because after a childhood of dance, I’ve enjoyed the residual benefit of being fairly limber, but stretching can be a darn good workout! Getting older, pregnancy and two years of mommyhood have taken their toll on my once limber limbs and I’ve found myself struggling to accomplish the same stretches I once did effortlessly. So, in addition to the exercise biking and crunches, I’ve added stretching to my exercise program… and boy, am I sore!! I’ve felt it mostly in my hamstrings and triceps – two muscle groups that don’t really get a good stretch through the activities of daily life. I’m hopeful that stretching will help lengthen the muscles as I work out more on the bike. I’m never happy when working out leads to bulkier muscles rather than the lean look I want.

 

I know I haven’t been the greatest about drinking water recently, so I’ve really been working hard to try to increase my intake. I know I feel a lot better when I keep on top of it, I just have a hard time remembering to do it throughout the day. I usually remember right about when I’m headed to bed, which, of course, is a terrible time to drink a bunch of water… because then I’m up all night running to the bathroom.

    Good idea to keep that limberness quotient up. I’ve watched my friends as we progress through the years and see that flexibility really improves our stability as we age. My friends who are less flexible appear to be less stable and more prone to falls. I hear you on the water too…. that’s a hard one for me as I don’t want to waste anymore time than I already do continually (and I mean continually….) looking for a bathroom. That’s an exercise program in itself! Good luck getting ready for Hawaii.
