Things I love about my baby turning 1…

image

Too often we focus on the things that have passed, rather than enjoying and embracing what exists today! So, for this post, I want to highlight the wonderful things that I so enjoy about C reaching that magical one year mark.

– Clean clothes (for all three of us!). The days of spit up, diaper blow outs and drool seem to have dwindled greatly, and my wardrobe appreciates it. I’m not changing clothes 3+ times a day, laundry costs have decreased and my newer clothes aren’t reaching that “threadbare” stage as quickly.

– Standing. I love that C stands now. And she loves it, too. Even if I didn’t enjoy it so much, her proud expression would get me every time. It’s such an awesome thing to be able to put her down and just have her stand there.

– Talking. So cool. Seriously. So.cool.

– Sleeping through the night. Enough said.

– Independence. She plays alone quite well – a critical skill to develop!

– Less crying. It used to be I couldn’t leave C’s side to go to the bathroom without waterworks (even with Ben right there holding her!). Tear free showers were nearly impossible and I spent much of my day wearing her around in a sling. While I loved the closeness, I enjoy her staying happy when I put her down even more!

– Signing. I can’t even express how awesome it is to have C communicate with us through sign language. It truly is amazing how much her little brain already understands, and it seems to make her really proud and happy to have us understand what she’s saying.

– Self feeding. It makes it really easy for us to have a meal with her! She’s even attempting to eat with a spoon & fork!

– Drinking from a cup. Whether its a straw or sippy, she’s got it down now! The kid loves water and loves to end a long SIP with an exaggerated “Ahhhhhh…”

– Understanding the world around her. She picks up her shoe and tries to put it on her foot. She finds a sock and does the same thing. She discovers a book and flips through the pages. She finds a picture of a dog or baby and points to it excitedly (at times signing/saying the word, too).

– Recognizing people & things. She gets so excited when we rediscover her doggy, when she sees daddy and when she sees friends and family she knows. It’s awesome.

– Having fun. She’s a thrill seeker who loves being tossed in the air, being chased (crawling), throwing herself in to a pile of pillows, and going fast in the shopping cart, to name a few.

– Developing a personality (and sense of humor!). She thinks its hilarious to feed me or present one of her stuffed animals for me to kiss.

– Being predictable. We know when she’s tired, or hungry, or when something just isn’t right. It’s so much better than the guessing game you play the first few months of life.

– Seeing her grow up (sniff, sniff). I’m so excited to see what the next year will bring us.

I know! It is so much fun to watch them learn and grow, but at the same time, you miss the little baby… such a strange feeling. It’s so wonderful that you are able to slow down and enjoy her in the moment! Keep on enjoying! :)

I loved this post so I had to let you know! Every age has its special points. Our oldest baby will be turning 40 this next Spring. . . it makes one think as the time has absolutely flown by since all those wonderful firsts! It is so important for mothers to treasure the developmental place their young one happens to be. Claire really is a blessed little girl.
