January in Review

Hi all!

So this comes a bit late – January ended well over a week ago, but things have been crazy lately and it’s far too easy to avoid blogging.

January started off with a bang for us… literally. Ben was rear ended the first weekend of January while driving home from his soccer game. Ben came out of the accident unscathed; his truck, however, did not. A little shaken up, he walked (actually drove) away from the accident pretty much ok. He’d been wearing his seatbelt and the Ranger’s safety features had done their job.

We came out more on top than expected – Ben’s insurance paid out a fair price for his truck (poor truck!!) and off to Folsom Lake Ford we went. We got a new F-150 as a replacement truck… and a nice new car payment to go with it! Still, it’s a pretty rad truck. Ben posted pictures of it on his website.

Moving on…

The post engagement bliss took over for the last week of December and first few weeks of January… then the reality of it all sunk in. I needed to start planning, quick! Vendors and locations booking up fast, Ben & I took stock of our situation and began talking realistically about what our wedding date should be. We figured it would take a few months to find the right location, and the chances of a Saturday in October still being available were slim to none, so the next thought was May 2007. There is so much to research and organize for a wedding. I knew and expected this all prior to the engagement. But until the reality of it all began to hit, I didn’t fully understand just HOW MUCH goes into this.

With the date range somewhat resolved, I started doing some research. I spent a full day searching wineries and outdoor locations online; and the results I found were mostly disappointing at best. Nothing that really suited us…

While dropping my ring off for resizing one night early January, I picked up a “Bridal Expo” book from the jewelry counter. Ben & I headed out to Chili’s for dinner that night, and I flipped through the newly aquired literature to see if anything caught my eye. Casually perusing, I found a picture of a newly married couple with a picturesque scene of the Sierra Nevada mountains behind them. I figured it had to be photo-shopped, and skipped past it. Then, while Ben was flipping through, he stopped on the same picture, and commented that we should look at their website. I figured it couldn’t hurt, and made a mental note to check out the site after dinner.

Later that evening, food in our bellies, I grabbed my laptop to start the search. Based on what I’d seen in the past few days, I wasn’t expecting much. But I must say, I was blown away by the professionalism and polished look of the site. This was, by far, the best website I’d seen – and seemingly the best location in general. I spent about an hour looking it over before realizing how late it was, and that I had work in the morning!

The next day I called the seemingly too good to be true location, and talked with the owner, Patrick, for about 45 minutes. He was incredibly informative, and invited Ben & I to come up and view the location, as well as stay at the lodge & drink on the house. An offer too good to be true? Tested; it held up to all expectations. We visited our to-be nuptial location and partook in the free lodging and beverages – including a wide sampling of wines, beers & mixed drinks.

We booked the location and reserved a date mid-October 2006. Woohoo!

Lastly, I began a new endeavor this month – I am now a Certified Independent BeautiControl Consultant. I was introduced to the products a little over a month ago, and have been in love! Mostly the product lines are focused in “At Home” spa products (simple, easy spa products you can use at home to have a mini-spa experience whenever you please!), but I’ve been in love with their skin care and make-up lines, too! It’s not a full-time thing for me, but it is a great way to help pay for the upcoming wedding and our new car payment :(

If you’re interested in hosting a spa night, please let me know! The “Spa Night” includes demos of many of the luxurious spa products, as well as a sampling of the make-up line! That’s about it for January, thanks for tuning in!

Stay tuned for next month’s edition…. guaranteed excitement in February!
