Gina 2005 Sangiovese Napa Valley 12/26/08 – This was a tasty wine; very light and fruity. It was slightly effervescent on the tongue and finished nicely. We paired it with a pesto pasta – it held up quite well and was still yummy after the food was gone.

French Hill Winery Barbera Grand Reserve 2004 12/31/08 – This was a fabulous wine. I can’t remember where it came from – I think it may have been a recent Trader Joe’s purchase, but if I’m slighting someone who gave it as a gift, I apologize! Looking it up online, it’s around $33 a bottle, but if it really was a trader joe’s purchase, I probably didn’t pay much more than $20 for it… I’ll have to do some research on this one and get back to you! Overall, this was a very full wine. Bold, fruity, complex and not too dry. It came in at a higher alcohol content (15.3%), but it’s masked well and goes down smoothly. I’d love to visit this winery and see what else they have to offer!

Bonterra Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 2006 1/9/09 – Very good wine; fruity and a little on the dry side. A great deal for the price (purchased from Trader Joe’s). The description on their website says it best, “This Cabernet offers aromas of Bing cherry, currants and raspberry, with spicy notes of cedar and dried cranberry, with slight vanilla notes (French Vanilla, insists Christian). In the glass you’ll find juicy red berry flavors, and a very approachable, rich and full mouthfeel with a lingering, thoughtful finish. Good structure, polished yet soft tannins promise an ever more pleasing wine to come, with lively acidity and subtle spice.
