So along with the condo, we’re now getting new dual pane windows installed at our house as well! I’m super excited about this. Our current windows consist of a mix of single pane 1970′s windows that flex and move when the slightest breeze blows, while the others are the original version of dual pane aluminum frame windows. We’re getting them all replaced, along with the back slider, with vinyl frame, dual pane, double strength glass. Just an upgrade to double strength is a huge improvement – right now you can press on the glass and see it bend from a single finger. The new stuff can support the weight of a person (or so our sales person says – he didn’t actually demonstrate it). All in all, it should reduce our energy bills both for summer & winter and make our house worth more.
It’s annoyingly smoky in California – all of the fires have been causing the skies to darken and gray for weeks now. It makes my contacts dry and painful. I can feel the layer of smoke clinging to my skin and in my hair. I’ll be excited when the fires are done and this clears out. The recommendations are to stay indoors and avoid the smoke, but we’re missing the sunny weather! How can we comply? (although the 110 degree weather is a nice deterrent as well). I want to get out and enjoy the sun – get away for weekend trips – camp along the coast… but alas, until the weather clears, indoor activities are par for the course.
