Fall has arrived

I found my car covered in a dewey glaze at 8am this morning. The sky is overcast. Not impending rain, just the fall season on it’s way. Leaves are starting to turn shades of red and purple, and the air is crisp.

It’s perfect timing for me. I enjoyed walking out into the cool fall air this morning. Already suited for the occassion, I was decked out in a sweater and slacks for work. The warm weather has been great, and I will still enjoy those last few hot days that we’ll undoubtably see before winter arrives, but it’s definitely time for things to start cooling down in general.

Ben has been travelling for work the past few days, so I took the opportunity to spend some time with my friend, Jen, last night. We went to a spinning class (that kicked my butt!!), went back to her house for dinner, and then watched a movie called "Bride & Prejudice". An Indian culture movie, by the same people who made "Bend it Like Beckham", only a lot more singing and dancing. Sans the formentioned ‘Grease’ style singing/dancing skits, it was a cute movie. Non-complicated story line, a few twists, but generally a chick flick. We actually fast forwarded through most of the musical pieces; sitting through the first one was enough for us.

Signing out. Have a good one!

this is unbelievable

It was like something out of a Seinfeld episode.

Early Friday afternoon at work, and my appetite got the better of me. Even though it was only 11am, I headed to the communal kitchen fridge to seek out the leftovers I’d abandoned the day before. After opening our less than sanitary fridge and rummaging around for a few seconds, I realized that my leftovers (a tupperware full of chicken and rice) must have been moved from where I’d left it. Not yet discouraged, I squatted down and began digging. Past plastic bags with anonymous contents, seemingly expired condiments, and a few recent additions that may have actually been edible, I dug. A little puzzled that I couldn’t find my food, I let a co-worker past to grab her lunch, and resumed my search. Now checking the vegetable and deli drawers, still finding nothing.

Finally, I look to my left to the stack of freshly washed dishes sitting to the side of the sink. There it was; my tupperware container, nicely cleaned and contents missing. No mistake; my lunch had been thwarted. The dry erase marking of “Suzy” and “9/8″ (the date) were half scrubbed off the lid.

I couldn’t believe it. Someone had actually eaten my leftovers. It’s not like this was a tv dinner, sanitary and cleanly packaged in a factory; this was the remains from my dinner two nights before!! Perhaps one of the guys in the office has a wife named “Suzy” and mistaken the tupperware for his own? Still, hard to believe. Another thought; maybe my tupperware fell out of the fridge, opened on the ground, and some kind soul had cleaned up the remains and washed my container for me. Again, hard to believe.

I think it comes down to this; someone who either doesn’t care about sanitary conditions of food, or believes mine to be high, decided that they were hungry, and I was to go without lunch. It’s a sad, sad world.

a wednesday night blog

The time just flies by these days.

Ben & I met a year ago today; it’s so hard to believe that it’s been that long, and that time has flown by so quickly. Looking back at the past year, we’ve done so much, both together and individually. It’s a little sad that the time goes by so fast… guess it supports the “time flies when you’re having fun” cliche.

A year ago, I went on a train ride to bid my friend, Morgan, farewell. She was off to London for a year abroad. I was soon off to visit her; spending ten days in London & Paris during December. She and I stayed in touch via email and messenger while she was abroad. Tonight, we had dinner together during her first week living back in the states.

I spent a good part of last year travelling for work. September, October and December were all spent mostly on the road. I was glad to settle down a bit more when I started a new job locally in January.

I spent last labor day weekend in Las Vegas with some friends for a bacholerette party; this year, I’ll be camping with Ben & some friends at a campsite just outside Sacramento.

Reflecting on where I was a year ago gives me a lot of perspective of where I am now, and makes me wonder what I’ll be doing in another year. It’s amazing how quickly and drastically life can change; how people can come into and out of your life within a matter of moments. It only takes a few minutes to rekindle an old friendship, meet a new friend, find a new love; and yet it’s all subject to chance based on prior decisions that bring us to particular moments in life.

Well, that’s it for me tonight; just taking a moment to look back on the past year and share. Have a good night.
